Why Worship? Pt.2

It’s a normal thing to ask this question, especially when things have become particularly difficult. The onset of illness, loss of job, marital/family problems or financial woes all leave you wondering if God has gone on vacation, or at least forgotten about you. There are a lot of verses that tell you to worship God in spite of your situation. I could list them, but if you are the type who has trouble worshipping when times are tough, you probably know them already. So, I want to take the “logical” approach to show you why it makes more sense to worship the Father, even when your life is a total disaster, than it does to focus on the problem and constantly ask “Why me God?”

I’ve designed a bit of an algorhythmic table to show how no matter what, worshipping God just makes good sense:

Situation
Worship God
Don't Worship God
Good Times
Expressing gratitude pleases God. Worship draws you even nearer to Him. A grateful heart invites God to pour out even more blessings. God may ultimately reject those who are ungrateful.Failing to acknowledge God for His blessings also causes pride and arrogance to increase.
Bad Times
Worship in the midst of difficulties takes faith, which pleases God. It develops patience, which is part of your perfecting. It draws you into the presence of God, which fills you with His peace. He is your refuge. Focusing on the problem instead of the solution simply makes it worse. God’s worthiness to be worshipped isn’t dependent on your situation. Worship is due God because He is God.
Result
You become more like Jesus.
You become more like yourself.

Since becoming like Jesus is God’s ultimate goal for you, then it makes sense to do whatever it takes to help that happen. Jesus could handle anything he encountered perfectly. He was so secure in the Father that He slept through a storm that had everyone else panicking. Wouldn’t you like to have that peace of mind and security of faith? Imagine finding yourself able to look at any circumstance that befalls you and saying “Father, I praise you because you are here with me, and your strength will sustain me no matter what I must endure.” Learning to worship God in all things will bring you to that place.

Does this answer the question?
